Dave Talbot

Dave Talbot started his breast cancer journey in 2015 with the discovery of a small lump in his chest that subsequently led to a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Dave is currently ‘cancer free’.

Dave has been a co-moderator of the Men’s VMU since its formation in 2020. On the day he was diagnosed with breast cancer he signed up for the ‘London Moonwalk’ and completed this one week after finishing his last chemotherapy session.

This led to him getting involved in campaigns run by ‘Walk the Walk’ aimed at raising awareness of breast cancer in men.

Dave also campaigns for men to be more responsive to any changes in their bodies encouraging them to go and see their GP at the earliest opportunity.

Since 2015, Dave has widened his awareness raising activity including working with Breast Cancer Now, and numerous media appearances. In 2022 Dave was the ‘male face’ of the ASDA Tickled Pink campaign and was the keynote speaker on the subject of breast cancer in men at the ‘Tickled Pink’ Ball.

As a result of his work with the VMU, Dave was invited to be a member of the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) Breast Cancer Committee and also sits as a lay member on the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) EME funding committee.
